Decisions with open eyes
1. Clarify the decision
Section titled “1. Clarify the decision”What are we actually deciding — and what are we not deciding? An unclear question cannot produce a fair answer.
2. Make those affected visible
Section titled “2. Make those affected visible”Who experiences the consequences now and later? Who carries the cost, uncertainty or risk? Who is not at the table?
3. Sort knowledge
Section titled “3. Sort knowledge”Separate factual claims from plausible assessments and open value questions. An uncertain number does not become true because it looks precise.
4. Take counterarguments seriously
Section titled “4. Take counterarguments seriously”State the strongest opposing position so its supporters recognise it. A straw man is not a test.
5. Plan for revision
Section titled “5. Plan for revision”Document what the decision will be measured against and what should trigger a new review. A decision without a revision trigger quickly becomes an identity.
